PCB Design Questions

I completed a fresh live audit without changing the circuit, placement, outline, or routing.
Confirmed
  • 0 airwires
  • USB clearance passes
  • ESP32 antenna keepout only flags its owning module
  • No verified defect was altered
Still preventing final approval
  • The board preflight returns a generic BOARD_DEFINITION_GENERIC validation error without identifying the underlying object.
  • Three protected USB breakout segments are reported as redundant but appear intentional; they were preserved.
  • Non-blocking advisories remain for D5 pin metadata and C6 decoupling placement.
An independent bare-PCB review completed, but I could not retrieve its final verdict. Therefore, the board is not yet certified for manufacturing. Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.
"ESP32 PCB Fabrication" completed.
I couldn’t retrieve and reconcile the executor’s fabrication report, so I made no additional changes and cannot honestly approve the board for manufacturing.
The last confirmed state still requires final verification of:
  • Zero airwires and unintended redundant traces
  • USB D+/D− breakout clearance and continuity
  • C6 decoupling warning
  • ESP32 antenna keepout warning
  • Complete fabrication DRC/DFM results
Do not order the PCB until these checks pass. Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.
"ESP32 Board Review" completed.
I couldn’t retrieve the completed ESP32 Board Review report, so I could not reconcile its findings or make any further verified corrections. The project remains in its previous state and is not certified for manufacturing.
The final approval still requires confirming:
  • 0 airwires and no unintended redundant traces
  • USB D+/D− continuity and minimum clearance
  • No blocking board-definition or fabrication DRC errors
  • C6 decoupling and ESP32 antenna-keepout findings are advisory only
Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.

USB-C Placement Handoff
Status
Targeted placement pass performed on 2026-09-16. Partial completion, not a clean electrical/routing handoff. All revision footprints are on-board and top-side; body/edge placement checks are clear, but retained routing intersects new pads. Do not manufacture this state.

Short symmetric via-free USB escape opportunityFailed / unresolvedU9 output pair order is opposite U8's facing input order in the direct channel; a straight short symmetric escape is not established. Lead must resolve topology/escape before routing. No schematic pins were swapped.
Eliminate all new electrical pad/trace conflictsFailed14 overlapping-copper errors remain against unrelated retained 3V3/control routing; broader removal/rerouting was not authorized.
New routingUnattempted by instructionNo traces or vias intentionally added.
Remove direct obsolete connector remnantCompleted, limitedRemoved one DRC-confirmed redundant RXD0_GPIO3 trace to former J6 that shorted J1 shield. Remaining redundant routing is listed below for lead review.
Exact placement changes
Coordinates in mm relative to board center, rotations CCW. All initial rotations for the newly revised parts were 0°. All final layers are Top. Initial positions are rounded from inspection; final positions are the applied values.

R10 is the sole unrelated placement exception, moved to the adjacent resistor column because F1 otherwise overlaps it. Its original routing must be updated. No component was moved to Bottom.
Mechanical and placement read-back
J1's library footprint is FP_GCT_USB4215-03-A. Its stored edge datum is 2.15 mm toward local −Y. At (2, −22.85), that datum lies exactly at board Y = −25. The read-back silkscreen/body front is Y = −24.95; rear is −18.45. Front shell slot centers are (6.32, −22.85) and (−2.32, −22.75); rear centers are (±4.32 + 2, −18.85). Slot copper and drill extents remain inside the board. The manufacturer product-spec lookup referred to a separate drawing and did not establish the numeric mechanical datum; placement uses the existing library geometry, not a guessed replacement footprint. Exact drawing-level validation remains appropriate before fabrication.
J1 data-pad centerline is Y = −18.275. U9 connector-side I/O centers are Y = −16.35, providing a 1.925 mm centerline gap. U9 is immediately behind the receptacle. Board-summary centered bounding boxes are conservative/misleading for asymmetric J1/J5 footprints; actual pad/body coordinates and outside-board checks were used rather than those centered estimates.
U8 VCC pin 15, VCCIO pin 3, 3V3OUT pin 13 and USB pins 11/12 were checked against datasheet evidence. DTR# pin 1 and RTS# pin 2 were checked as well. C8 serves VCC, C7 is local VCC bulk, and C9 serves FTDI_3V3 per existing schematic. C9's connection to the opposite-row VCCIO is not a separately optimized local decoupling loop.
U9 pins 1/6 are I/O1 and 3/4 are I/O2; its duplicated I/O terminals permit flow-through layout. Existing schematic assigns DN to 1/6 and DP to 3/4. Read-back U9 outputs: DP (2.95, −14.05), DN (1.05, −14.05); U8 inputs: DP (1.62, −11.94), DN (2.26, −11.94). This reverses pair order in the direct gap. Do not claim via-free symmetric routing is solved. A further local rotation/escape plan or electrically equivalent ESD channel remap needs lead review; no such schematic change was made here.
F1 is beside the south entry to accommodate its 16.36 mm footprint span. Its raw-input pad is (−9.45, −23.55); D5 raw cathode is (10.7, −18.75). Their locations prioritize body fit while preserving connector/switch access, rather than claiming minimum VBUS-loop length. D5 remains on USB_VBUS_RAW, upstream of F1 electrically.
Final check evidence
Read-only get_checks reviewedAt 2026-09-16T19:59:10.473Z, followed by full layout-summary read-back:
  • 50 components, 50 footprints; all Top.
  • No reported missing footprints, component-body overlaps, outside-board findings, edge-placement findings, pad-access findings, or protected-copper intrusions in the requested checks.
  • Two keepout errors, both U1 intersecting its own existing antenna zones; no other component intrudes. Zones were neither reduced nor deleted.
  • 14 overlapping-copper errors remain. These are real shorts, not ignorable warnings.
  • Routing state before the one-trace removal reported 30 airwires and 37 redundant items across six groups. These counts are a snapshot, not a post-cleanup completion claim.

Other redundant groups were on 5V, EN, TXD0_GPIO1, IO0, RXD0_GPIO3, and Q1_BASE. Re-query redundancy before selecting further cleanup; do not delete unrelated routing merely because it is inconvenient.
Recommended next lead action: resolve the USB escape order, authorize surgical rerouting of the six intersecting retained segments plus R10 connections, then route the USB-C revision. Preserve the antenna keepouts and existing AMS1117 copper region. This placement batch does not complete the overall PCB revision.
