Top Silkscreen Layer

d6409383-ab7d-4768-bdde-3a6311d6f610 is this on the top or the bottom layer?
d6409383-ab7d-4768-bdde-3a6311d6f610 (“Credit - Name” / “Brooks Solveig”) is on the Top Silkscreen layer.

Schematic is Auto-placed

The schematic has been arranged automatically. Flux can redraw it to be more readable, with components placed in related groups and wires drawn more legibly. This takes about 10-60 mins.

Wireless Module Integration
Scope
Integration evidence and action list for ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R2 when Wi-Fi or Bluetooth LE is enabled in the finished dashboard compass. This is an engineering checklist, not legal certification of the end product.
Module Evidence
  • Module family: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 with onboard PCB antenna; U1 module outline is 18.0 × 25.5 × 3.1 mm.
  • The ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 datasheet identifies Figure 11-1 as the recommended PCB land pattern containing the antenna-area dimensions required for PCB design.
  • The datasheet directs base-board module placement to Espressif’s hardware-design guidelines and requires minimizing base-board interference with the antenna.
Implemented Antenna Geometry
  • U1 is mounted on the bottom, at the left board edge, with its antenna facing outward.
  • A component-local 18.0 × 5.75 mm ESP32 Antenna Keepout zone follows U1 orientation.
  • The zone is configured across all copper layers and excludes components, pads, vias, routes, fills, polygons, and nets.
  • Placement verification found zero keepout violations and zero out-of-bounds components.
  • The exact zone dimensions follow the authoritative footprint/package graphical antenna region. The machine-readable datasheet text identifies the controlling drawing but did not expose its internal dimension labels; verify the final fabrication view against Figure 11-1 before release.
Espressif Integration Guidance
Official guidance: ESP32-S3 PCB Layout Design
  • Prefer the onboard PCB antenna outside the base board, with the feed point close to the board edge.
  • If it cannot overhang, keep the feed point as close to the edge as possible and provide adequate clearance.
  • Keep the antenna away from USB circuitry, high-frequency clocks, crystals, UART traces/test points, switching nodes, and other noise sources.
  • Provide adequate ground copper and dense ground vias near, but not inside, the antenna clearance area.
  • Maintain at least 15 mm clearance in all directions inside the product housing around the PCB antenna.
  • Test the final product for communication throughput and range.
FCC Evidence and Conditions
  • FCC ID: 2AC7Z-ESPS3WROOM1.
  • The Espressif FCC certificate identifies a Single Modular Approval for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth under Part 15C.
  • The grant requires the integrator to ensure the final composite product complies with FCC requirements and points to KDB 996369.
  • Different antenna configurations and portable configurations under §2.1093 require separate approval/evaluation.
  • The OEM integration manual states the certified integral antenna configuration, no transmitter co-location without evaluation, a 20 cm user-separation condition for the modular authorization, and visible end-product wording: “Contains FCC ID: 2AC7Z-ESPS3WROOM1” (public manual copy).
  • Because a vehicle dashboard can be closer than 20 cm to occupants, do not assume the module grant alone closes RF-exposure compliance. Obtain a product-specific regulatory assessment if the installed geometry cannot reliably maintain the stated separation.
CE / RED Evidence and Conditions
  • The ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 EU Type Examination Certificate covers the evaluated module configuration under RED 2014/53/EU Annex III, Module B.
  • Evaluated configuration: PCB antenna, 3.26 dBi; Wi-Fi 2412–2472 MHz at 19.9 dBm EIRP rated; Bluetooth LE 2402–2480 MHz at 10 dBm EIRP rated.
  • Certificate evidence includes EN IEC 62368-1, EN 50665 / EN IEC 62311, EN 55032 / EN 55035, ETSI EN 301 489-1/-17, and ETSI EN 300 328.
  • The certificate scope is the submitted module evidence, not automatic conformity of the finished compass. The final product still needs a RED/EMC/safety assessment and technical file appropriate to its markets.
Product Integration Checklist
  • Preserve ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R2 and its integral PCB antenna; no antenna substitution.
  • Confirm no copper/component/fastener intrusion in the all-layer antenna keepout on final Gerbers.
  • Maintain ≥15 mm housing clearance around the antenna; keep metal and wiring outside the clearance.
  • Document installed antenna-to-occupant separation.
  • Evaluate any simultaneous/co-located transmitter in the vehicle/product configuration.
  • Add visible FCC containment label if relying on the modular authorization.
  • Include required FCC/IC statements and RF-exposure information in the end-user documentation for applicable markets.
  • Perform finished-product unintentional-radiator/EMC testing.
  • Perform RED radio/EMC/safety/health conformity assessment for EU sale.
  • Run open-board versus enclosed Wi-Fi/BLE throughput, RSSI, and range tests.
  • Archive module certificates, final schematics, BOM, PCB files, enclosure drawings, firmware radio settings, labels, manuals, and test reports.
RF Validation Plan
  1. Load controlled Wi-Fi and BLE test firmware with documented channel, power, bandwidth, and duty cycle.
  2. Measure open-board RSSI/throughput/range in four orientations.
  3. Repeat in the final enclosure with the production USB cable and display at minimum and maximum permitted brightness.
  4. Repeat near representative dashboard metalwork and vehicle wiring.
  5. Investigate any repeatable enclosed loss above 3 dB, unstable link behavior, or strong heading/RF interaction.
  6. Record firmware version, radio settings, test distance, antenna orientation, enclosure revision, and pass/fail result.
