To connect the ATMEGA328P-PU to a power source (let's suppose it's a 5V DC supply), here's what you need to do:
  1. Connect the VCC terminal (the terminal with designator VCC) to the positive terminal of your power supply.
  2. AVCC is the power supply for the analog functions within the microcontroller. To ensure proper functioning of the Analog to Digital Converter inside the microcontroller, AVCC should also be connected to the positive terminal of your power supply. However, it's highly recommended that you connect AVCC and VCC through a 100nF or similar decoupling capacitor to ground. This can help in filtering out the high-frequency noise.
  3. Finally, connect the GND terminal (the terminal with designator GND) to the ground or the negative terminal of your power supply.
Make sure to provide the right power supply voltage as excessive voltage can damage the microcontroller. Always refer to the datasheet for the correct operating voltage range. For ATMEGA328P-PU, the operating voltage range is from 1.8V to 5.5V.
Remember, in any PCB design, power and ground connections are essential as they provide the necessary voltages for the chip's operation. Always take care while designing these power connections.
