Astable 555 Timer Setup

Astable 555 timer
To size and place the classic 555‐timer in astable (oscillator) mode, let’s nail down a few key specs:
  • What supply voltage will you use (e.g. 5 V, 9 V, 12 V)?
  • What frequency range do you want (e.g. 1 kHz, 100 Hz, 1 Hz)?
  • What duty-cycle or mark/space ratio do you need (e.g. 50 %, 30 % on, 70 % off)?
  • What will the output drive (e.g. LED, transistor, CMOS logic)?
  • Do you have a package preference for the 555 (e.g. DIP-8 vs. SOIC-8)?
Once we have those answers, I can recommend a specific 555 variant, calculate R/C values, and pull the exact parts from the Flux library.
